{South Africa}…Let’s help Guide Dogs SA

See this puppy? How cute is he? Now he may just be an excitable farm dog but I am sure that most people know, Labradors and Retrievers also make excellent guide and service dogs. I often see a poster advertising donating R10 to the SA Guide Dogs organisation on my way back from gym, but it’s kind of hard to remember the details and that number when driving (texting and driving is done faaaaar too often in Jhb!). So when I stumbled upon this tweet today, I thought I would share it with everyone. Because everyone reads this blog. Obvs.SA Guide dogs

With Whatsapp, BBM and so on, R10 of airtime is such a small amount but can make such a difference to this, and many other, organisation, so no more excuses now!

If your interest is sparked as mine was, here it the link to the SA Guide Dogs website. I am really impressed with it, especially the mix between the technical information and the personal stories, bringing the reality to life for the reader, my favourite are the doggy diary entries!

Anyway, spare two seconds and R10 and pop off an sms 🙂

{November Project}…Nikon’s “Photo-A-Day”

So a few mornings ago, while working diligently, I was momentarily distracted by the following image appearing on my twitter time line, that I just happened to accidentally open on my desktop.

I have been feeling an increasing need for some kind of creative outlet lately. The year is getting hectic, the last few hectic months are catching up to me and I need a holiday…which is still a month and a half away…so I have decided to make this my new project for the month. As I mentioned, life is currently quite intense, and Joburg provides its own challenges, so I won’t be doing this in exact date order, nor will I necessarily get to all of them…but I will be making an effort to do a decent number these, even if it means a bombardment of several every few days. So the get the ball really rolling, here are some of my Nikon “Photo-A-Day”s…

4th November: “Ice Cream”

12th November: “Vintage”

Why Beef and Bubbles…

It’s season 2, episode 13 of Cougar Town. Laurie Keller is talking to Bobbie Cobb.

Laurie: “I love me some beef and bubbles. Uh that should be our detective names. He´s Beef a grizzled ex marine with a secret. He´s a vegetarian. She´s Bubbles, his plucky hot partner with a secret of her own. She´s Beef´s daughter, and together they fight crime, and each week maybe they grow a little bit closer together”
Bobby: “I don´t know why I got chocked up”

So one of my guilty pleasures is watching Cougar Town {yes feel free to judge me, I like it}. Season two was my favourite with many quotes that now make up while conversations between me and some of my friends {judge away, I still like it}. These include the likes of “Laugh” (said in an American accent), “What What” (said with arm movements), “Oh Jellybean” (said with sad shaking of the head), “Imaginary Hat” (Said with the tipping of this imaginary hat), “Imaginary Opera Gloves” (said with pulling up of these imaginary gloves)…and I could go on for a long time. {But don’t worry, I won’t!}

But essentially, the above quote stayed with me. It was just fun and silly and all those things Cougar Town is.

I also happen to be really bad at naming things. {Like really bad}. My poor car didn’t have a name for the first two years of her life {although I did know she was a ‘she’} and even now her name is, well, lame. So I stressed about naming this blog. And I tried to be clever and witty and simple all at the same time. {I failed at that}. Then I re-watched some Cougar Town episodes, {as I do, carry on} and was reminded about Bobby and Laurie’s “Beef and Bubbles” conversation. And since then, that has been this baby’s name. Entirely random but way better than anything I came up with before and now its quite grown on me. I’m a fan. Well done me.
